February 2012 Newsletter

January Recap:

The residents welcomed in the New Year with a variety of activities. “Take a Stand” exercises was a new activity that we introduced and was well received by the residents. These exercises gave residents more one on one time with the instructor than a conventional exercise program. The residents were able to gain more confidence with stability by holding on to a chair.

The treasure chest donated by the Pioneer Library gave our residents a new idea for an activity which will be offered in February. The treasure chest contains vintage items that the residents can look at and reminisce about. The residents suggested that they share their own “treasures” with other residents leading to the creation of a new activity called “Attic Treasures”. Elaine is always looking for new activity ideas and is always open to suggestions!

February News:

February is the month for parties! The month is also filled with sports and entertainment. Our Super Bowl Party will be at 6:30p.m. on Sunday February 5th in the main living room. We will be serving snacks and refreshments as well as passing out Super Bowl party favors. Come watch the New England Patriots play against the New York Giants on the big screen TV and root for your favorite team.

We will be celebrating Valentine’s Day on Tuesday, February 14th at 2:00p.m.We will have live music with “Jeneane” from 2:00 to 3:00p.m. followed by Valentine treats and gift bags. The gift bags were made by the residents who at- tended Crafters Corner. Each bag will have a special Valentine’s day card made by the Boys and Girls Scouts of America and staff at Seneca Lake Terrace. Be sure to grab your bag at the end of the party.

Mardi Gras Celebration will be held on Tuesday, February 20th at 3:00p.m. This is a fun event for all. Mardi Gras masks will be provided and the residents will snack on “King Cake” and strawberry daiquiri’s. We will also be having games and prizes, so mark your calendar and be sure to come to this event!

The Daytona 5oo race will be televised on February 26th at 1:00p.m. Come and watch the race on the big screen TV. We will be serving refreshments and snacks in the main living room during this event.

Elaine will also be introducing some fun and new activities during the month of February. On February 20th at 3:30p.m. we will be having “Presidential Trivia” in celebration of Presidents Day. Daytona 500 game will be on February 17th. at 11:00a.m. This game includes our home made version of the Daytona 500 race where players roll dice to advance their car towards the finish line. Watch out for the oil spill along the way that will slow you down! This game provides great social and physical interaction. Who will take home the trophy?

During our Happy Hour Social on Friday, February 24th, we will be hosting an Attic Treasure Social Event. This is a great way to share vintage items such as coins, pins, pictures or other memorabilia with staff and residents. If you would like to share an item during Attic Treasure, please see Elaine Hilliard or Cheryl Jensen.
